Well, it seems that I haven't been blogging, though I have been knifty knitting. I got very discouraged and stopped for a few weeks though. I had been working on one for my sweetie, that was supposed to be a surprise. It was a hat/scarf set. The hat was easy enough, but I had to undo the scarf 4 times!!! First I had 4 feet and change done when I realized I had been doing it too tightly (That explains why it kept curling) so I had to undo it all. Then I tried it wider and loser, but it still continued to curl. I then tried to make it as a tube, but I had a tangle and it undid before I could stop it. At that point I put it down for a few weeks because I was besides myself and beyond frustrated.
Well, I took a deep breath, after the break and just after Christmas and started on it again. I've since finished and started to put my long set to use. It is really neat and I managed to get my first panel done for my afghan. I need to get 1 more ball of yarn, but it will be okay. I really like the yarn I'm working with because it feels very soft and nice when its done being worked with. I don't have a picture of the scarf, and have since mailed it, I will be taking a picture of the panel though soon.
Happy Knifty Knitting!!!
Well between the holidays and the visitor, my sweetie, I haven't had time to loom knit a thing. Everything fell to a complete and total stand still. I barely even managed to get online! Right now I am at school and tomorrow I will probably be recovering and straightening things back out, but I will try to start back with it by wed. I never finished his hat/scarf, but I will try to do so and mail it to him. I have to make the hat and scarf for my other friend and then have to go on to do the christmas surprises. Too much to do and very little time. Ah well, complaining won't get it done!
I got my sweetie's hat done (pictures to come) and I am pretty excited about it. I think it might have looked better if I used a bit fuzzier yarn, but I like the colors and the way it came out for the most part. It is made up of 40 rows (I will put the material in later). I started on his scarf as well. My mother saw it and said it should have been wider, but I already had like 4 inches or so done already so I was not going to rip it all out. I'm sure it'll be fine and he'll be happy and if he wants it wider I'll make another one.
I have to get this one done by 11/20.... If I wasn't crazy the next bit it would be feesible, BUT I have class tonight, a hair cut tomorrow, a Fall Out Boy concert Wed and I have to clean too and get time to go see my friend to get my hair dyed.
Happy Loom Knitting!
Well I just finished up the adult sized hat for my friend.
It was made up of 40 rows on the green loom. I used Fixation Color Number 9030 along with Moda Dea's Metro yarn in Cadet Blue. I think it came out nice, the picture doesn't really do it justice but it is late and I wasn't huge into staging at the moment. I am going to see if I can beg him to take a picture of it with it on and use it to post up here for a better shot. It looked good on (I tried it on me). I just didn't seem to lay the brim flat in the picture.
Now I am down to 2 hat/scarf sets to do for other people, 1 hat/scarf set to do for me and more cancer caps. :) I can do it! Oddly enough, though, my thumb is getting sore from where I hold the tool. I'll have to put a bandaid there or something of the sort.
Happy Knifty Knitting!
Well, last night I ended up getting sick so I took today easy. I actually showed my mother how to loom knit a hat, she had some trouble at the start, but is finishing it up now as I type this up. She started on a child size hat. While she worked on hers I did the hat to match my scarf. As promised here are pictures of the scarf, as well as the hat.
The hat was made up of 40 rows using Lion Brand Yarn's Color Waves Yarn in Purple Vista as well as fixation in color 6388. The scarf, as I said in the previous post, was made up of Lion Brand Yarn's Color Waves Yarn in Purple Vista. I measured it today and found that it came to a total lenght of 5 feet 9.5 inches. I wore it outside tonight quite proudly when I went to get yarn to make my sweetie a set and my best friend a hat.
I am going to start on the hats, the one for my friend and the one for my sweetie. When they are done I will start on my sweetie's scarf. I have to do one for my other friend, her birthday was this week. I told her it would be late, but I never found a yarn I liked. I am going to Michael's tomorrow. All of their yarn is supposed to be 25% - 50% off and I have a coupon for a non discounted item. Hopefully I will find what I wanted for her there. I also want to try to do another child's chemo cap, at least two, this week.
Happy Loom Knitting!
Well, I was so excited that I started on my scarf that I watched the youtube video once and jumped into it. I got it to the lenght I wanted and went back to the video and realize... well... <.< I didn't follow the pattern right. Once you got into it, it called for knitting back from right to left. then once you got to the left pearling 3 (skipping the first one, pearling 2) going through the rest in knit stitch and then ending the last 3 on the row in pearl stitch... I got confused and I went from the right to the left in pearl and then pearled 3 knit then pearled the last 3... SO I was pearling every other row and oopsie I wasn't supposed to. Now that being said I didn't get the same outcome as she had, but I like what I ended up with. (A photo will follow tomorrow). As the Beatles sang "With every mistake we must surely be learning" and in my mistake I learned something new as well. I can do it the way she wanted and might in the future, but I still like what I came up with so we'll see.
I am going to work on the matching hat next, then a few more of the chemo caps and then my next set (a tube scarf and matching hat. :)
My hint - youtube videos are great just make sure to watch it (more than once) and take notes. I didn't and should have. ah well ;)
Happy Knifty Knitting!
Oh and for those who want to know (and I will try to post it with the picture) but my scarf was made out of Lion Brand Yarn's Color Waves Yarn in Purple Vista. I didn't use all of it, but I did use most of it.
Well the weather has gone cold so I am happy that I started on my scarf. I am also happy that the fixation yarns that I wanted for my hat(s) has arrived as well. I plan on (for me) making 2 scarfs (the panel one I am working on as well as a tube scarf like I did for my friend) and two hats. I think the tube scarf and the two hats won't be a problem (I can probably do 2 adult hats in one night easily), but I am surprised at how I am coming along with the panel scarf. It is different than the hats (as you can see in the video I linked before) so I am going a bit lot slower than I had imagined I would be. But I only started it late over the weekend (Early Sunday Morning I believe) AND I couldn't work on it Tuesday much and made a child's hat on Monday so the fact that I have it around 3 feet long isn't too bad. I did work on it a great deal tonight, though.
Another thing I have noticed is that while I can do the hoop hats/scarves while chatting to people and keeping up with emails and the like on my computer it is not as easy to do that while actually knitting and pearling (sp?) on the knifty knitter. I think I am going to have a little more satisifaction though with the panel scarf because there was more of a challenge and I am hoping that I will be able to now switch over to my Christmas present from mom (the big set of long knifty knitters) easier.
In any event I am going to crash for now, but my tip of the day is to pay attention to how you learn and to use different mediums to find lessons. I seem to learn better visually so I found the you tube video which helped me immensely. Other people need it in writing. Be patient with yourself, work with your strenghts and (more importantly) have fun.
Happy Knifty Knitting!
Well, as I have this monday off from school as my break hits between 2-3 mini semester is up I set tonight to loom knitting. A co-worker gave me 2 yarns she found as a donation to the cancer caps so I used one tonight making another children's cap.
It has 35 rows and is made using 2 strands at the same time of:
- color number 9490 of Cascade's fixation yarn
- light blue color of Lion Brand Yarn's Fun Fur (this is one of the two that my friend gave me)
I am rather proud of it thinking it looks neat. I hope this will keep a child's head warm. I am going to go back to my scarf. It is a different pattern of loom knitting then the tube scarf and hat so we'll see.
Happy Knifty Knitting!
Alright... I am up entirely too late... again... but I am excited. First I finished another Child's hat (picture above). I used the tri-colored (black, gray, white) fixation that I used with my friend's hat, but this time I added it with Fancy Fur in Stained Glass made by the Lion Brand Yarn company.
My excitement is simply this. I decided I wanted to do a panel scarf on my loom knitter (my last one was a tube scarf) so I went peeking online (because my written manuel is downstairs) and I found a video on you tube of how to make a panel! (See video here) The person who made it was very clear in her directions and had a good shot on what she was doing. I was getting frustrated at first, but I quickly got the hang of it and I almost have an inch done! (I know that may not seem like great progress but I am feeling all YAY! so go me).
But it is late and I should sleep so happy knifty knitting!
I finally finished the scarf for my friend. Above is a picture. It finished at 4.5 feet long and I am quite proud of myself. I gave it to my friend tonight and she really liked it. I started it on Halloween (Wed) and then worked a little more on Thursday and Friday and just finished it off today.
It is made of the same Bernat Disco material. I am really really excited about it. I am going to do another cancer cap or two and then do my scarf and hat once the fixation I ordered to match my material comes in.
Happy Knifty Knitting!
I've been having a bit trouble of the scarf, its starting to curl in on itself. Do you think I... read more
